Welcome to the Southern Tablelands Regional Library BookMania Wiki for young people.

Your Tutor

available 4pm-8pm, Monday to Friday

School students can now receive free tutoring help online at their library or home, through an innovative new service just introduced by Southern Tablelands Regional Library.
yourtutor creates an online classroom where students are connected to qualified, expert tutors for one- to - one help with homework, assignments, exam preparation and study questions.
English, Maths and Science subjects are included and the service is available 4pm-8pm, Monday to Friday from either library or home computers. Help is immediate, professional and secure and it's free to library members. Students in Years 4-12, simply click on the link below to access the program.
Tutors are certified teachers, professional tutors, post graduates and advanced undergraduates from Australian universities. They can review specific homework and assignment questions with students on line, using features like controlled chat, an interactive white board and shared web browsing.
Students and their parents love yourtutor because it's a smart way to take the stress out of schoolwork and be better prepared for exams and tests.

Holiday Workshops
Games Morning at Gunning

School holidays have arrived at Gunning Library so come along and join in the fun! There will be board games, puzzles and yo-yo's and a morning tea of chocolate biscuits will be provided. Please bring your library card as there will be new books to borrow. Bookings are essential and can be made in person or by phoning the library on 4845 1231. Parents are welcome but do not need to stay.

When: Friday 9th October
Time: 10.00am-11.30am.
Age: 5 years of age and over
Cost: It's FREE

Storytime at Marulan The Goulburn Library will be visiting the Brewer Centre at Marulan for a special school holiday Storytime.
We will read the new Hairy Maclary story and follow it up with some fun craft. This storytime is for children 7 years and under.

When: Wednesday 7th October
Time: 11:00am
Cost: FREE

Participation in Storytime is a free but bookings are essential and can be made by email strl@goulburn.nsw.gov.au or by phone to Rowena Gibb on 4823 4435.

Goulburn
Zoomobile

The St George Zoomobile from the Taronga Zoo is visiting the Goulburn Library. During the visit you will be able to meet, learn about and interact with native animals and hear how to take positive action in the conservation of our native wildlife.
The Zoomobile will be at the library for three, one hour sessions and is recommended for children 4 years and over, teenagers, parents and grandparents.

When: Tuesday 6th October
Where: Goulburn Library
Session Times: 10:30am, 12noon and 2:00pm
Cost: $5.50 (per participant)

Payment must accompany your booking.
(Please note: Children between 1 & 4 years of age will be charged an entry fee, but parents need to be aware that coming to the Zoomobile consists of one hour of sitting & listening. If a child cannot cope with that the parent will need to take them out of the room)

Celebrate Spring
Children 7 years and over are invited to paint a flower pot for Spring.
Participants will need to wear old clothes. Children will receive a plant to pot.

When: Monday 12th October
Where: Goulburn Library
Time: 10:30am and finish by 12 noon.
Cost: $5.00 per participant

Payment must accompany booking.

Geronimo Stilton Party. Readers of Geronimo Stilton are welcome to come to our Geronimo Stilton party. There will be cheese tasting, craft and books to borrow so participants are encouraged to bring their library card with them.

When: Thursday 15th October
Where: Goulburn Library
Time: 10:30am and finish by 12 noon
Cost: $5.00 per participant

Payment must accompany your booking.

Rhymetime commencement dates for term 3, 2009
Rhymetime is for children aged 6 months to 22 months and their parents/carers.
Rhyme Time is a programme of books, rhymes, bouncing and songs with a parent singing, reading and bouncing their child to a life long love of literature

When:
Yass - commencing Wednesday February 4 at 11:00am (it goes for the whole term)
Goulburn – Rhymetime commences Wednesday August 19 at 11:00am and finishes Wednesday September 16.
Bookings: Not required.
Cost: Free

Storytime for 2009

Storytime for pre-school age children is held weekly during school terms. Storytime is open to parents/carers with children of preschool age.
Storytime goes for approximately 1 hour and consists of stories, songs and craft.

Crookwell – Each Monday @ 11:15 am
Yass – Each Thursday @ 11:00am
Goulburn – Every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:00am
Gunning – Every second Friday @10:30am (fortnightly)

Bookings: Not required.
Cost: free

BookMania is an after school book group that meets monthly at the Goulburn and Yass Library. The book group is aimed at students in years 3 to 6 of primary school. Participants get to borrow books, talk about books and complete an activity which varies from month to month. Afternoon tea is provided.
Previous activities have included choosing books and designing displays for the library, craft and writing to an author. To participate all you need is your own library card.
Where: Goulburn Library
When: The Goulburn group meets on a Tuesday at 4:00pm and goes for about an hour.

BookMania is the Southern Tablelands Regional Library's reading club for children of primary school age.

1. To join all participants have to do is register at the library loans desk and have their own library card.

2. To participate you must have your own library card and borrow books that are at your reading level from any branch of the Southern Tablelands Regional Library.

3 You don’t just have to read fiction books you can also read junior non-fiction, magazines or listen to audio books.

4. Upon registration participants will receive a BookMania backpack with a reading log insdie. Use the reading log to list the items you have read from the library.

5. Throughout the reading log you will see that there is the opportunity to win a prize after reading a certain number of books. To claim your prize bring your reading log in to the library loans desk to pick up your prize.

6. Once you have completed this reading log, go to your local library and pick up another one.

7. BookMania members will receive a newsletter each term and have the opportunity to come to special events at the library through out the year.

8. BookMania will also be part of the Southern Tablelands Regional Library web site. Book reviews written by BookMania members will be published on the web site and in the BookMania newsletter.

9. When you review a book, your name will go into the draw to win a special prize at the end of the year.

10. BookMania is not a competition it is an opportunity for all involved to have fun through a variety of activities and events.

11. If you ever have any questions about BookMania or what to read next please talk to staff at your branch of the Southern Tablelands Regional Library. Remember the more books you read from your local library the more chances you have to win a prize.

2009 NSW Premier's Reading Challenge

The Southern Tablelands Regional Library has a selection of Premier's Reading Challenge books for all age groups.

The challenge starts on 1 February 2009 and ends 1 September 2009.
